Women Make Better Leaders (The New York Times, 25 July 2009)

Female managers are better list-makers and are more willing to confront problems directly but are more prone to over-think when it is unnecessary, says the Elle Group's chief brand officer. However, she also believes that an ideal work environment is one where men and women work together.
Our View: While women make up half of the management and professional positions at Fortune 500 companies, most are still unable to achieve higher levels of seniority. Women comprise only 6% of the Fortune 500’s top earners and only 3% of CEOs. Yet, analysis shows that those companies with more than three women on their boards correlates with an additional 4- percentage-point increase in financial metrics such as return on invested capital. Companies overcome this gap through tactics such as establishing a HIPO program targeting women, offering mentoring and peer networking opportunities, and holding leaders accountable for women's career development.

I don't think you should infer causation...
